Terms of Service

Effective date: 30 April 2026

Status, April 2026. SlopScan is in soft launch. We currently offer the free Chrome extension only. The Premium tier (sections 4 and 10 below) is not yet active. We are not taking payments, running trials, or processing subscriptions. Those clauses describe how things will work once Premium opens. The free extension is governed by the rest of these Terms.

1. Acceptance of terms

1.1. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of SlopScan, including the Chrome extension and any associated web services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by SlopScan Ltd, United Kingdom ("SlopScan", "we", "us", "our").

1.2. By installing the extension, creating an account, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1.3. These Terms form a legally binding contract between you and SlopScan Ltd.

2. Service description and important disclaimer

2.1. SlopScan is a browser extension and SaaS product that analyses LinkedIn posts and comments to estimate the likelihood that content was AI-generated. It uses heuristic and machine-learning techniques to generate a probability score.

Important: SlopScan provides probabilistic estimates, not verdicts. Scores are not proof that content is or isn't AI-generated. Do not use SlopScan to make accusations, take adverse employment or academic decisions, or publish claims about specific individuals.

2.2. AI-detection technology is inherently imperfect. Scores will sometimes be wrong. You are responsible for how you act on any score SlopScan produces.

2.3. The Free tier performs all analysis locally in your browser. The Premium tier sends post text to our detector API for higher-accuracy scoring. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

3. Licence

3.1. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the extension for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

3.2. You may not:

Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service;
Redistribute, resell, sublicence, or make the extension available to third parties;
Modify or create derivative works based on the extension;
Remove or obscure any proprietary notices in the Service.

3.3. All intellectual property rights in the Service remain with SlopScan Ltd.

4. Account and subscription

4.1. To use Premium features you must create an account and subscribe. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.

4.2. Pricing. Premium is currently priced at £4.99/month (or as displayed at the point of purchase). Prices may change; we will give you at least 30 days' notice before increasing your subscription price.

4.3. Free trial. New Premium subscribers receive a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged until the trial ends. Cancel before the trial ends and you will not be billed.

4.4. Cancellation. You may cancel at any time via the customer portal. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods.

4.5. Failed payments. If a payment fails, we will notify you and may suspend access to Premium features until payment is resolved.

4.6. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and subscribe.

5. Acceptable use

5.1. You agree not to use SlopScan to:

Harass, defame, threaten, or discriminate against any individual or group;
Make, publish, or repeat accusations about specific individuals based on SlopScan's scores;
Take or recommend adverse employment, academic, or legal decisions based solely on SlopScan's output;
Conduct large-scale, automated data collection from LinkedIn via SlopScan or by scripting interactions with the extension;
Violate any applicable law or regulation;
Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service.

5.2. SlopScan is a read-only DOM annotation tool. It is designed to assist individual users in evaluating content, not to be weaponised against other users or to systematically profile individuals.

5.3. You are responsible for ensuring your use of SlopScan complies with your employer's policies, any applicable professional codes of conduct, and LinkedIn's own terms of service.

6. No affiliation with LinkedIn

6.1. SlopScan is an independent product. It is not endorsed by, sponsored by, affiliated with, or in any way officially connected with LinkedIn Corporation or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates.

6.2. LinkedIn is a registered trademark of LinkedIn Corporation. All LinkedIn trademarks remain the property of LinkedIn Corporation.

7. No warranty

7.1. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including (without limitation) implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

7.2. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any scores will be accurate or reliable.

7.3. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law (for example, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud).

8. Limitation of liability

8.1. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, SlopScan Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, business, or reputation, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

8.2. Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising under or in connection with these Terms shall not exceed the total fees you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. Indemnification

9.1. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SlopScan Ltd, its officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:

Your use or misuse of the Service;
Your breach of these Terms;
Any action you take based on SlopScan's scores;
Your violation of any applicable law or third-party rights.

10. Termination

10.1. You may stop using the Service at any time. Cancelling your subscription ends your Premium access at the end of the current billing period.

10.2. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service immediately, with or without notice, if:

You breach these Terms;
We are required to do so by law; or
We discontinue the Service (in which case we will give reasonable notice where possible).

10.3. On termination, your licence to use the Service ends immediately. Sections 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11 survive termination.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

11.1. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes to these terms

12.1. We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email (for registered users) or via a notice in the extension or on our website at least 14 days before the changes take effect.

12.2. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of them. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service before they take effect.
